Periodontal diseases range from simple gum inflammation to serious disease that can result in major damage to the soft tissue and bone that support the teeth. \u00a0In the worst cases, teeth are lost.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Symptoms of gum disease include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Bad breath that won\u2019t go away<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Red or swollen gums<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Tender or bleeding gums<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Receding gums<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Painful chewing<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Loose teeth<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Sensitive teeth<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Any of these symptoms may be a sign of a serious problem, which should be checked out by Dr. Tillman and our hygienists. \u00a0At your next dental visit the hygienist can check your gums for signs.\u00a0 They will also ask about your medical history to identify underlying conditions or risk factors (such as smoking) that may contribute to gum disease.<\/p>\n<p>Whether your gum disease is stopped, slowed, or gets worse depends a great deal on how well you care for your teeth and gums every day, from this point forward. \u00a0Dr. Tillman recommends keeping up with your routine exams and cleanings to help prevent and catch early signs of periodontal issues.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; If you have been told you have periodontal (gum) disease, you\u2019re not alone. \u00a0Many adults currently have some form of the disease.
